Checking your bandwidth usage Print

  • 24

Bandwidth is all data transferred to and from your hosting account – website visitors, file uploads and email.

To check your usage

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. The Statistics panel on the right shows this month's bandwidth.
  3. For a breakdown by month and service, go to Metrics → Bandwidth.

Finding what's using it

  • Metrics → Awstats shows visitors, top pages, file types and search engine robots. A high “Not viewed traffic” figure usually means bots are crawling your site.
  • Metrics → Raw Access lets you download your full access log for detailed analysis.

Common causes of high usage

  • Aggressive bots – block them in your robots.txt, or with Security → IP Blocker in cPanel if they ignore it.
  • Large email attachments, or syncing big mailboxes over IMAP.
  • Large media files – consider hosting video on YouTube or Vimeo and embedding it.
