RustDesk – remote support (recommended)
If you'd like our team to help you directly on your computer, download RustDesk from our support page:
rustdesk.co.nz – available for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android.
- Download and open RustDesk. On Windows you can run it without installing.
- When our support person asks, read them the ID and one-time password shown on screen.
- You'll see everything they do, and you can end the session at any time by closing RustDesk.
Stay safe: only share your RustDesk ID and password with AshHost staff after you have contacted us for help. We will never call or email out of the blue asking to connect to your computer.
PuTTY – SSH access to your VPS
A lightweight program for connecting to your VPS from Windows. Download PuTTY from the official website – most people want the 64-bit x86 Windows installer (.msi).
Windows 10 and 11 also have SSH built in, so you may not need PuTTY – see Connecting to your VPS using SSH or SFTP.
WinSCP – file transfers (SFTP / FTP)
Drag-and-drop file transfers between your computer and your VPS or hosting account. Download WinSCP from the official website.
- VPS: use SFTP, your VPS IP address, port 22, and the username and password from your welcome email.
- Website hosting: use FTP with TLS encryption, host host.ashhost.co.nz, port 21, and your cPanel or FTP login – see What FTP server should I use?
All downloads come directly from each program's official source, so you always get the latest, safe version.
